Biography: Based in San Francisco, California, Irene is an educator who teaches Culture, Ethnic Studies, Social Justice and Performing Arts at University of San Francisco's Philippines Studies Program and San Francisco State University's Asian American Studies department for 15 years. Her professional lifeblood is storytelling, the craft of narrative of different identities, and the inclusion of voices who have been left out (of historical canon, mainstream media, in policymaking), as P/Filipinx/a/o, BIPOC, LGBTQIA and other colonized communities have. Irene is the recipient of the Independent Scholar Award at AAAS Conference by the Filipino American Studies Caucus (2018), and recently published in SAGE Filipina/x/o American Encyclopedia (2023). She is the founder of a creative studio that partners with nonprofits on storytelling, culture, and design.
